This ancient illumination is from a manuscript all the way back to the 1300s. Astronomers believed the sun, the moon, Mars, Venus, Mercury, Saturn and Jupiter revolved around earth. It was also noted that the moon’s four phases lasted 7 days each.

In the Bible, more sevens abound. The seventh day sabbath starts in Genesis and Revelation warns us of a 7 headed beast. Las Vegas slot machines pay out on triple 7s and the game of craps is all about 7 come 11.

I suppose scrap is just a part of life. Whatever you make, whether it be a fine meal, a couture dress or a greeting card, there will always be bits and pieces that are left over. Fortunately, some scrap is digital and easily stored on the hard drive rather than cluttering up the house.

This was a clipping from a 1981 newspaper that came in a box along with other estate sale treasures. Since it was printed in 1981 it doesn’t qualify for the public domain except there is no artist signature and quite frankly it looks like an antique image. So, I’m thinking the newspaper used a copyright free image for their article but use at your own risk.

This is a corner illustration from a 17th century map of Paris. Today’s version would be quite factual and not contain any artwork so we are grateful that vintage versions survive.

French Capetians

This image depicts the accession to the throne of the Capetians. From the left, Hugh Capet, Robert, and Constance, restored Paris to become the center of power. Hugh was crowned king in 987.
