This image represents man’s first free ascent from earth in November 1783. Two Frenchmen wave from the gallery of their Montgolfiere as they set out from Paris.

Horses are heavy animals! It would take a lot of hot air to get this off the ground and wouldn’t the horse be freaking out? Such is the fun of hot air balloons and with vintage art anything is possible.

Looks a little crowded in there with the lady’s dress and hat.

I love the concept of balloons as ships.

It seems that Toonces the driving cat from Saturday Night Live is not the first cat to get behind the wheel. These cats look like their on their way to getting liquored up on the way to the dance hall.

I think it’s cool how archangels are depicted as either gender depending on the artist’s view. Many years ago angels would show up in my dreams and they had enormous wingspans, taking up the entire room. There are so many paintings and drawings of angels it’s hard to say if they really are huge or our mind tells us so because of how they are depicted. In the Bible whenever angels appear they always say “do not be afraid” so maybe they are larger than life!

I never get tired of angels and I’m especially fond of the classical paintings. I think the halos are really cool with a spiritual vibe. This angel is a detail from the Pala dei Linaioli by Fra Angelico in Florence, Italy.

The stylized lily known as the fleur de lis has been around at least since the 12th century and is associated with the French Monarchy. I’m especially fond of symbols and use them extensively in my artwork. Long live the fleur!
