This image represents man’s first free ascent from earth in November 1783. Two Frenchmen wave from the gallery of their Montgolfiere as they set out from Paris.

Horses are heavy animals! It would take a lot of hot air to get this off the ground and wouldn’t the horse be freaking out? Such is the fun of hot air balloons and with vintage art anything is possible.

Looks a little crowded in there with the lady’s dress and hat.

I love the concept of balloons as ships.

It seems that Toonces the driving cat from Saturday Night Live is not the first cat to get behind the wheel. These cats look like their on their way to getting liquored up on the way to the dance hall.

In 1803 the nobility would have to travel in style, so this fantasy, “La Minerve” was conceived. Comforts include a ship’s orchestra, an organ for serenades, a cage for ladies of easy virtue, a surgeons house and toilette connected by a ladder. The chicken on top is pretty cool.
